The Story of Evan Michael

Since I have a few minutes I thought I would share with you all about Evan.

On Sunday the 14th Mikaela woke up at 2:30am with contractions. An hour later, she woke me up saying that her contractions were five minutes apart. We sat in the living for a while while the contractions were going on. About 4:30am we went back to bed for a bit. Eventually we got because Mikaela's contractions were getting stronger. At 7:30am we call our doctor and she told us to go ahead and go to the hospital. Mikaela didn't feel like her contractions were strong enough to go to the hospital yet, so we took some movies back to the video store and then went to Starbucks to get some coffee. At 9:00am we arrived at the hospital. The nurses got us settled and checked Mikaela to see how for along she was. Thankfully, she was far enough along that the doctor didn't send us home. So, we
settled in for the long haul and waited.

Around 12:00pm the doctor came in and broke Mikaela's water and thirty minutes later that started on her Patosone. Over the next couple of hours her contractions got stronger. Eventually Mikaela asked for some Demerol to her relax and sleep between contractions (that's all she took - no epideral). Around 3:00pm she began to push and at 4:13pm Evan came into the world.

He weighed 9 pounds, 8.4 ounces and was 21 1/4 inches long.

We stayed in the hospital until Tuesday afternoon then came home. It has been a fantastic week with Evan. It's been fun getting to know him, watch him sleep, and stare into his eyes when he has them open. We are having a blast with our little guy and couldn't be happier.

Yes he really did weigh 9 pounds, 8.4 ounces!

Twitterpated

All right I know there has been a lack of blogage as of late. This is mostly due to the fact that I really haven't felt like there was anything very blog-worthy going on. Also, I've been doing a lot with Facebook. I also recently have become addicted to Twitter. So I will begin to blog a bit more around the time Evan is born (in three weeks give or take). Until then, and even after that, feel free to follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/sneakypig3 and on Facebook.

Later.

2.07.08 - the latest

Well here's the latest:

M is still pregnant (22 weeks).
Scroll down if you want to see ultrasound and belly pics.
Mike is still in school.
This semester is going better than the last.
Mike is still rocking the Bux despite the loss of hours and other stuff.

We are both looking forward to coming to Redding in March.
My step-dad is building a bedroom in the basement so people who visit have a place to sleep.

And that's the short version

Uh-mazing video

This video is amazing. The guy who put it together did all the animation. Being a big WoW fan, this video made my jaw drop. Check it out.

1.22.08 - 2 days of YAY!, 1 day of ARGH!

Tuesday - After a long wait Mikaela and I discover that we are having a boy! Let me tell you that little man was not bashful. He's one squirmy kid though. I feel bad for Mikaela as that kid gets bigger because he's already kicking good now. Kid's already a hyper-hypo and he's not even out of the womb yet. Mikaela and I spent the rest of the evening running through boys names. One possibility is Evan. It's Welsh and it means "little warrior." I like the sound of that.

Wednesday - Finally. After many, many long months....LOST is back. I could barely contain my excitement all day. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. The two hour premiere was uh-mazing! Biggest plus: answers. We didn't have to wait five weeks to find out what happened to those left behind (sorry Mark, hope I didn't ruin anything). This whole season opens a huge realm of possibilities. I'll go more into this later when I've had a chance to watch it again.

Today - Ever have one of those days where emotionally you feel all out of whack? I woke up late and just felt lethargic all day. Did some homework but it was like pulling teeth to get it done. Mikaela and I went to the eye doctor and it was frustrating. We had to wait over an hour for our appointments, then they charged us way more than we've ever paid for contacts, then the guy couldn't explain some of the fees. We left feeling kind of ripped off. Not going back there again. Then we come home and Mikaela calls the small group leader at this church we are going to. Now as the small group leader you think you would have some idea of what kind of groups were meeting, what they were doing, etc. This lady had no clue. We want to find a group that was close to our ages, married and some with kids. The lady had no idea if any of the groups fit what we wanted. She didn't even know what groups were meeting, what days and times. Completely unhelpful. This left us even more frustrated than we were earlier. We were so frustrated that we didn't talk for the rest of night for fear we would upset the other person.

Maybe I'll go watch LOST...that always cheers me up.

discovering my age

I had a horrifying moment on the way home from work the other night. No, it did not involve my car sliding on ice. No, it did not involve some person calling me an "older gentlemen" (thank you again for that Chelsea). The horrifying moment happened while I was listening to the radio.

In Youngstown, there is really no Christian music station. Air 1 doesn't come in very well, so when I get bored with my Ipod music I listen to the radio. The other night I was listening to "Paradise City" by Guns 'n' Roses. Back in high school, I used to listen to Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica, Soundgarden, etc. Normally I don't listen to those bands anymore, but the song made me feel nostalgic, so I cranked it up.

By now you wondering what the horrifying moment was, or you have figured it out. The station I was listening to was the CLASSIC ROCK station. It's a sad day when you discover the music you enjoyed in high school is starting to be played on the classic rock station.

Sigh....................

1.11.09 - inching along

What a weekend.

Friday night M & I went to Outback for dinner (thank you Johnny and fam for the gift card). I was so nice to get out and spend an evening together. We had a great time talking about the baby. I'm beginning to think we won't talk about anything else for a very long time. After we did a quick trip to Starbucks, the grocery store and Wal-Mart before heading home completely exhausted.

Saturday we woke up and found large amounts of snow had been deposited all over our street. How much snow. Well this picture will give you a vague idea:

I tried to get a close up of the ruler but I couldn't hold the camera steady to get a clear shot. But the ruler shows that 9 inches of snow fell over night. As you can see my morning chore was shoveling the drive. Thankfully, my neighbor Joe came over with his snow blower and cleared my whole driveway in the same amount of time it took me dig the small section you see in the picture. Praise God for nice neighbors. After all that fun of shoveling I came inside and made a french press of Casi Ceialo.

I love my little french press. No more coffee makers for me. If you are a coffee fan(atic) get rid of your coffee machine and get a french press!

The rest of the day was spent helping my step-dad work on the bedroom in the basement and working. Amazing how many people will come in for coffee even when the roads are covered in inches of snow.

But the best part to Saturday was coming home, cuddling with my wife, and getting to feel the kick! I was so excited. I can't wait for this little bugger to come out. June will be here before I know it.

Back to school tomorrow. It's going to be weird. Five classes this semester, all on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On one hand I'm looking forward to getting back into the routine of school, not looking forward to the homework load so much. I'm praying it will be a good semester unlike the last one.

Hope you all are doing well and please stop being jealous about all the snow we have.

1.07.09 - Back to the blog

Hey gang! Yeah I've been absent from the blogging world for a bit. I just haven't felt like writing/typing anything as of late. Also because there hasn't been a lot going on in the Cunningham household.

The last month I've been on break from school. Wow, such a needed break. Last semester was really tough, but I made it. I ended up with three B's and one C. So, overall I'm really happy with those grades. I go back to school on Monday the 12th. Please pray for me that day. I'm taking five classes this semester to make up for the one I dropped last semester. This semester will be a bit harder due to the large amounts of snow this area gets in late January and into most of February. The snow goes from being measured in inches to being measured in feet. Thankfully, my step-dad will let me borrow his four-wheel drive for the really scary days.

Mikaela is doing pretty good. She is trying to get adjusted to being pregnant now that she is beginning to get the baby bump. Thankfully, the periods of morning sickness are over and she is eating well and gaining the weight she needs to gaining. In two weeks we head to the doctor to (hopefully) find out what we are having. People ask us if we have a preference of a girl or boy. We usually say it doesn't matter, but lately I think we are both hoping for a girl. I can't give a reason why, but we constantly refer to the baby as "she" most of the time without even thinking about it.

We think we may have found a church to attend while we are here. It's an Evangelical Presbyterian church not far from our house. The music is decent, the preaching is good (so far some of the best we've heard) and they have a good amount of small groups. Mikaela is hoping in a couple of weeks to start going to their women's group on Monday nights. I would go to the Men's group but they all meet at 6am in the morning and let's face it: I don't do 6am in the morning.

So that's life in a nutshell for the past month.

I ask that you please pray hard for Mikaela and I. Just pray however the Holy Spirit directs you. I'll blog some specifics soon.

Love you all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have a great day spending time with family and/or friends.

We are actually having a gloriously sunny day here in Youngstown. Most of the snow has melted and it's supposed to be in the 40's today and tomorrow. Never thought I would be excited to have temps in the 40's...LOL.

Mikaela is heading in her 12th week of preggerness. She has good days and bad days. She is handling the morning, afternoon and evening sickness like a trooper. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks she'll be done with the throwing up and begin to get her appetite back.

I'm heading into my last two weeks of this semester. I'm really glad it's almost over. This has been a really rough semester. So I'm hoping after a month break that next semester will go much better. The thing that amazes me the most is at the end of next semester I'll have a two week break before the baby is born! Crazy!!!!

Have a great day, eat lots, and thank God for all the blessings He has so richly poured out on you.
